         The Trans-Siberian Railway, one of the most exciting railroads in the world,runs from Moscow to Vladivostock with several branches on the line.One of them goes through Mongolia. The Trans-Mongolian Railway is connected to the Trans-Siberian by a branch line from Ulan-Ude. It provids a link between the Trans Siberian and the Chinese railway system. The sections were joined from the main line to Ulaanbaatar in 1949 and to China in 1955. The total distance from Moscow to Ulaanbaatar is 6304 km, and from Moscow to Beijing 7865 km. The Trans-Mongolian railway covers 1000 km from the Russian border to the Chinese border connecting Ulaanbaatar and several other towns and citys. There are Russian, Mongolian and Chinese trains Moscow-UB-Beijing and Moscow-UB and return.

TRAIN SCHEDULE & BOOKINGS: The Russian, Chinese, Mongolian rail authorities decide on the annual schedules which is annually announced, usually after May so it is important to check the schedules when planning your travels. In a yellow building beside the Railway in Ulaanbaataristhe Foreigner’s booking office and the International Ticket office where you can make railway bookings. But it is recommended to book your tickets in advance, preferably through tour operators. Trains from Moscow to Ulaanbaatar depart twice a week, and similarly in the opposite direction (Ulaanbaatar to Moscow). Trains between Irkutsk and Ulaanbaatar depart every day. Trains to Ulaanbaatar depart from Beijing once a week.The day of departure changes each year vice versa.The schedule in this directionusuallystays the same. Railway Authorities sometimes put on an additional trains during the busy tourist season, but this is only announced after begin of the tourist season.
